What Can I Expect?

Sometimes people are afraid or nervous the first time they receive a colonic.  This is normal.  By understanding the process, these feelings may be minimized. Your comfort and safety are the main concerns of your certified colon hydrotherapist.

  • The session takes place on a comfortable massage table in an immaculate treatment room
  • You will be provided with a gown and asked to disrobe from the waist down in the private changing area.  Once on the table, you will be draped with a sheet for privacy
  • Relaxing music and essential oils are available to provide an atmosphere of peace and calm to help you relax
  • Only temperature and pressure regulated, triple-filtered water is used for each session
  • Disposable individual speculums and tubing are utilized
  • For maximum comfort, clients may insert their own speculums (assisted by the therapist if desired)
  • All waste is released into a closed waste tube that can be viewed by the client.  (Because it is a closed system, there is no odor or embarrassment)
  • Water is introduced slowly (approximately 1 cup at a time), allowing the body time to rest between fills.  The therapist and client work together to monitor any sensations in the body to know when it is time to release the water.  This process may be repeated several times during the 30 – 45 minute session
  • At the end of the session, the client will be shown to the private bathroom where any residual water and/or waste can be eliminated

You should plan on an hour and a half for your initial session.  This should allow ample time to review your intake form, explain the process in detail, perform the session and allow time for questions.  Follow up sessions generally last one hour.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Colon Hydrotherapy?

Colon Hydrotherapy helps to dislodge and remove fecal matter trapped in the pockets and folds of the colon, giving you more energy.

Colon Hydrotherapy cleanses the entire 5 feet of the colon through a series of sessions. Compare this to an enema that cleanses only the lower 8 to 12 inches of the bowel.

How does Colon Hydrotherapy benefit me?

According to Connie Allred, President of the American Colon Therapy Association, “Colon Hydrotherapy removes toxins, cleanses the blood, stimulates the immune system and aids in restoring the pH balance in the body”.

How much is too much?

  1. It is not uncommon for an adult in the USA to have 8 to 30 lbs of old fecal matter trapped in their colon.
  2. Fecal matter piles up and dries out along the walls and in the folds of the colon reducing the squeezing motion of the colon resulting in a narrower tube for excreting fecal matter. Also it becomes more difficult to move the fecal matter out on a regular basis – the squeezing motion is lost.
  3. The walls of the colon sometimes stetch resulting in big “pockets” of old trapped fecal matter.

Is Colon Hydrotherapy safe?

Dotolo Toxygen Colonic DeviceYes. In fact, with modern colon hydrotherapy devices and the standardization of training and procedures, it is often safer than administering an enema. Colonics have a definite advantage and greater long-term benefits over laxative overuse which can be irritating to the colon.

All materials, including tubing, speculums and sheets are for one time use and are disposed after each client. In addition, the Dotolo Toxygen, FDA Class II cleared colonic device has a one way check valve to prevent the clean water from ever becoming contaminated with the waste water and an internal self-cleaning system that uses only a hospital grade disinfectant. The device, table, treatment area and private bathroom are cleaned and disinfected after each client.

Does Colon Hydrotherapy hurt?

Most people describe their colon hydrotherapy session as refreshing and relaxing. The warm, purified water is introduced in a manner that is similar to a slow trickle from your faucet. The insertion of the speculum can be an odd feeling for some but lasts for only a few seconds. Some people may experience some slight cramping immediately prior to a release. There is always close monitoring and interaction between the client and therapist to ensure that your experience will be as comfortable as possible.

What should I expect at my Colon Hydrotherapy session?

Plan to be at the office for an hour. Normally it takes 10 minutes to undress and get prepared, 40 minutes for the therapy session, and 10 minutes in the bathroom getting ready to leave.

In a typical session, a trained colon hydrotherapist gradually introduces filtered water into the body that goes directly to the colon in order to remove old fecal matter and gases that have been built up over time. The water is released through a clear tube so you can watch your progress. A new sterile disposable applicator is used for each patient at each visit.

Although colon hydrotherapy is usually a soothing and refreshing experience, during the first few sessions some people retain water and may feel bloated. You have a decrease or increase in bowel movements. The processs of moving old trapped fecal matter releases a minimal amount of old toxins into the colon and can bring about a temporary “healing crisis.”

Electrolytes may be lost so it is advised to have a mineral drink shortly before or after your session. Before and after a colon therapy session your meals should be gentle and nourishing food such as vegetable soup, fruit or vegetable juices.

How many sessions do I need?

It all depends on you. How much waste/feces do you have stored? How much fiber is in your diet? Your current and past emotional levels? Your daily habits of eliminating – have you been taking the time?

How do I prepare for a Colonic?

It's important to properly prepare for a colonic to make the most of the session. Find out more >

Can I go to work directly after a Colonic?

Most people feel refreshed and energized after a colon hydrotherapy session and should be able to return to work just as you would after having a normal bowel movement.

Can children do Colonics?

Yes! Many young children are unfortunately having major digestive problems. We use special speculums for children. Surprisingly enough children do very well with colon hydrotherapy.
